Retreating Glacier in Iceland
One of my favorite natural attractions in Iceland was Solheimajokull Glacier, an outlet glacier of the enormous Myrdalsjokull glacier (which sits atop an active volcano) and a popular stop on a South Coast tour. This glacier provides a lesson in climate change, as it's melting and retreating -- about 1 kilometer in the last 10 years. You can hike on the glacier, though I opted to do the short but scenic trek right up to it. The scenery is otherworldly, with sink holes, icy ridges, black sand slopes and a mirror lake hugging the entire view 😮
