Exploring Ischia's Medieval Castle

Visiting Italy? Make sure you add Ischia to your itinerary! ___ This volcanic island felt very non-touristy and laid-back to me, and offered numerous opportunities to explore outdoor adventure, thermal spas, beautiful beaches and history. ___ Castello Aragonese pictured above is one must-visit -- or at least must-see -- attraction on the island. The medieval castle dates back to 474 BC when it was built by Hiero I of Syracuse for protection. Today, you can head inside to explore the complex's numerous attractions wtihin, from a small torture museum to lovely olive groves and gardens to a monastery and more. ___ Even if you don't want to pay to the 10 Euros to enter, it's still worth heading to the Ischia Ponte area to get a view of the castle up close. Nearby sit lovely sand beaches and yummy waterfront restaurants. Interestingly, while wandering around Ischia Ponte I saw the PRESIDENT OF ITALY! So cool! 🤗
