Jessie on a Journey
A powerful and haunting memorial sculpture stands amidst a lush green setting with trees and foliage surrounding it. The sculpture consists of a group of life-sized human figures, cast in a grayish-brown material, standing in a solemn row. Their forms are elongated and abstracted, with faces and bodies rendered in a stylized, expressive manner. The figures have gaunt, emaciated features, conveying a sense of suffering and anguish. Their outstretched arms and hunched postures evoke a feeling of despair and helplessness. The memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the atrocities of the Holocaust and the countless lives lost during that tragic period in history.

Berlin Holocaust Memorial Sculpture

Wandering #Berlin 's "Jewish Quarter," I happened upon this memorial, dedicated to those who tragically lost their lives during the Holocaust. In Berlin, the Jewish population fell from 160,000 to 80,000 by 1939. By 1943 almost all had been deported to concentration camps. The Holocaust ended up being the largest genocide of the 20th century, with 210,000 Jews killed from #Germany alone. The people of Berlin have not forgotten the event, and memorials, museums and remembrances like this can be found all over the city.
