Saguaro National Park Guide: Exploring the Majestic Cacti
Saguaro National Park Mini Guide 🗺️
Saguaros are the universal symbol of the American west.✨These majestic plants are protected by Saguaro National Park, which is divided into two parts on the east and west of the city of Tucson.
Standing next to the magnificent Saguaro is an experience like no other! Here are some fun facts about the saguaros + tips for your visit to Saguaro National Park. (Save for later📌).
🌵Saguaro are very slow growing cactus. A 10 year old plant might only be 1.5 inches tall.
🌵Saguaro can grow to be between 40-60 feet tall (12-18m). 😮
🌵An adult saguaro is generally considered to be about 125 years of age. With the right growing conditions, it is estimated that saguaros can live to be as much as 150-200 years old.
🌵It takes 50 to 70 years for a Saguaro to grow its first arms!
🌵The Saguaro cactus flowers from mid-May to early June. 🌸
🌵The eastern section of Saguaro National Park has a lower concentration of cacti. However, it has miles of trails and is a wonderful place to hike. The western section is much smaller, but has a denser population of cacti and short trails that are easily accessible. Visit the park over two days if you can to enjoy both sides.
🌵If you decide to hike in Saguaro Park East, ideally go early in the morning before it gets too hot and bring lots of water – up to a gallon per person if you can!
🌵My personal favorite way to experience Saguaro National Park is by camping there! We camped closed to the east entrance on the first night and the west entrance on the second night. Send me a message if you have any questions about where to camp! ⛺️
I’m so grateful my dream to see saguaros came true! & I can’t wait to explore more of the National Parks here in the U.S. Death Valley… you’re next! What parks are on your bucket list?
