Thoughts on Photo Editing vs Photography

Can we talk about editing? I have a love/hate relationship with it. Sometimes I think it’s overdone and overshadows the photography itself. And then other times I’m completely lost in it and playing around and be crafty with the endlessssssssss possibilities. What are your thoughts on photoshop vs photography?
