With Glastonbury in full swing, there’s been lots of chat about whether kids should go to festivals or not. I genuinely think it’s not a controversial discussion. If a festival has kids camping, kids fields and the parents are confident to parent in that environment - then where is the problem? Using the “selfish” argument is an easy way to win an argument with most parents, as most of us aren’t selfish and so find it upsetting to be called selfish when our entire lives are dedicated to our kids. The bottom line is babies and kids are happy anywhere if they are fed, comfortable and occupied. But 1 in 7 parents will get PND, many more will have “baby blues” - I think a big part of that is losing yourself and no longer doing the things you enjoy, things that you know you could do with kids, but you don’t because of judgemental people having an opinion.
