The Travel Mum
An aerial view of the Tegallalang rice terraces in Bali, Indonesia. The terraces are carved into the sloping hills, with intricate patterns of stepped fields forming a mesmerizing geometric design. The terraced paddy fields are brilliantly green, contrasting against the reddish-brown earthen walls and pathways that wind through the landscape. Tall palm trees dot the terraces, adding vertical elements to the scene. The terraces appear to be well-tended and lush, with water flowing through the intricate irrigation system that sustains the rice crops.

Tegallalang Rice Terraces - Tourist Attraction or Genuine Agriculture?

• Tegallalang rice terrace, Bali 🌱 • • Beautiful from the sky, a bit “meh” from the ground. It seems to be purely used as a tourist attraction, with a few “mock” workers scattered about pretending to be tending to the hugely none existent plants. As you stop for a second to ponder what they are actually doing, they will quickly pose and tell you to take a picture (obviously for a price!). We saw much greener terraces elsewhere, but this one obviously draws the crowds because of its size and accessibility. Probably worth a look while you’re in Bali. We aren’t sure if this is supposed to be a paid attraction or not, as at no point did we pass a ticket stand or anyone asking us for an admission fee... we just donated to a few guys asking for help building a bridge as we walked around 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ • • • •
