The Travel Mum
A woman, wearing a gray top and carrying a young child in a baby carrier on her front, stands in front of a Ryanair airplane with people boarding in the background. The image appears to be taken at an airport, with the tarmac visible underfoot. The woman has long, wavy brown hair and glasses, while the child wears a blue and white striped outfit. The cloudy sky suggests a temperate climate.

Flying with a Baby: Tips from Experience

I can’t believe how much Leo has changed since our last Ryan air flight. (See post a few rows down!). It was a little harder now that we aren’t breast feeding, but we had a bottle ready for take off and for landing. • • 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆: • 𝟭- Feed feed feed on take off and landing, the sucking helps equalise their ears. • 𝟮- Take a variety of toys/books/things to look at. Leo gets bored really easily, but will be fascinated with anything new for a good 10 minutes. I’d only packed one toy so he had to make do with the safety card / food menu / my phone / inflight magazine / playing with my hair! • 𝟯- The baby carrier was essential. Once the pram is taken away to put in the hold, it would have been impossible to carry him and all of our things safely. • 𝟰- It might be obvious to some people (not us!) but pay extra for seats together if travelling with someone else. We never used to, we were quite happy doing our own thing and saving a few quid. But with the baby it’s priceless to be able to let him sprawl out and easily make him someone else’s problem for half an hour! • 𝟱- Dress the baby comfortably - again maybe obvious to some (not us). We tend to dress him in these stupid adult like baby clothes (jeans / shirts etc), but having him in a baby grow meant we weren’t constantly having to rearrange his clothes to keep him comfortable. • 𝟲- Have a couple of blankets in your nappy bag - it can get really cold mid flight but it’s also useful for making them feel more comfortable should you be lucky enough that they sleep! • • • •
