El Nido: From Fishing Village to Tourist Hotspot

• El Nido reminds me of Phi Phi ten years ago. El Nido was a sleepy fishing town until it had a boom in tourism in 2010, it’s developed loads since then. A road was built connecting it to Puerto Princessa, taking what was a 10 hour muddy drive and making it just 6. Endless vans do the journey each day so it’s easy to get there (and really cheap). Fisherman stopped using their boats for fishing, instead offering island hopping/snorkelling trips. João tells me the same thing happened in the Algarve, Portugal many more years ago.
