Weekend Hiking Trip in North Georgia Mountains

Weekend adventures still count! 48 hours hiking the north Georgia mountains with six fabulous ladies. 🥾⛰️🏕️ ⛰️Day 1: 5.5 miles; 860 feet ascent, 1200 ft descent 🥾Everyone met at Woody Gap Trailhead of the Benton Mackaye Trail (BMT for cool kids) - 25 minutes north of Dahlonega in the north Georgia mountains. We transferred all our gear to one SUV about noon on Friday and rode to Big Stamp Gap an hour away. 🥾We hiked the crossing the AT multiple times - keep going with the white blazes! 🏕️Camp was at a junction of the AT at Long Creek Falls’ big tent site. ⛰️Day 2: 10.6 miles; 2400 feet ascent, 2400 ft descent 🥾Saturday morning, we started the AT portion of our hike to Gooch Mountain Shelter 10.3 miles away. 🥪Lunch snacks were at Horse Gap where one member of our team was picked up (pre-arranged) and the rest of us continued. This next portion up Sasafrass Mountain was… ug. 🏕️At the AT shelter, we found spring to refill water, a shelter where 8 or so hiking men were staying the night, and ate our supper by the fire. There were so many international people! ⛰️Day 3: 4.8 miles; 1100 feet ascent, 730 ft descent 🥾Because it had started to rain in the middle of the night, we packed up in the rain and hiked through rain for several hours Sunday morning before arriving back at Woody Gap. 🌧️Cold and wet, we were glad to find our dry clothes waiting in the car that we had packed for just this moment! 🌮One hour later, we were all sitting happily at a Mexican food restaurant eating chips and salsa and drink in Dawsonville. 🤩We had ladies of different fitness levels, different speeds, a thirty year age range, and lots of determination. 👏🏻👏🏻So glad we did it! . . . 👉Save this and do it. ❤️ 👉Any questions?
