Visiting Dr. George Washington Carver's Birthplace
I think we would have made Dr. Carver proud with our visit to his birthplace. Yes, the kids did their junior ranger stuff (actually requested to do it?!!) and looked around the museum, but they explored and wandered through the forest as he did.

On the trail out to see the reconstructed slave cabin and the Carvers house, they considered where his secret garden would have been. We found a crazy caterpillar and millipedes and skinks and wildflowers galore. It’s a beautiful forested Missouri area. So peaceful.

During our American and Black history reading last year, he was a favorite person - my kid called him one of his heroes 😃 We know a lot about him. Because of that, they dove into this place in southeast Missouri eagerly. And might have questioned facts in the museum compared to what we had read.

Check out that quote. George Washington Carver has so many good ones. He saw God through what he made and wasn’t afraid to proclaim it. Amazing man and amazing stop.

GWC is someone all kids (and parents) could be more like. There are some beautiful picture books about him that are also a joy to read. Look him up!
