Using Appalachian Trail Shuttles for Day Hikes
Here’s a not-so-secret hiking tip for you… 🥾⛰️🌳
‼️Even day hikers or weekend hikers can use an Appalachian Trail shuttle.
It makes so many more beautiful mountain hikes easier!
(Let me explain.) 👇👇👇
1️⃣AT through-hikers will often spend a night (when they can) at a bed and breakfast along the trail. They’ll have a home-cooked meal, wash clothes, take a warm shower… And feel human again.
2️⃣Often, these hostel-hotels also offer transport to people.
For example, you park at the hostel and let them drop you off at a designated spot down the trail on their shuttle.
3️⃣You don’t have to retrace your steps to get back to your car. Or phone a friend. Or drive extra hours. 👏🏻👏🏻
Example:
For our mom hike with sons last fall, we parked at Mountain Harbor Bed and Breakfast in Roan Mountain, Tennessee.
A shuttle took us 30 minutes away to Carvers Gap in the Pisgah-Cherokee National Forest.
One full day and two short days later, after hiking 14 miles total, we arrived back to the hotel for our parked car.
❓Why does this matter?
We didn’t have to shuttle cars or find someone to pick us up. It was easy!
If you’re looking up details online, this will be called the “Carvers Gap to 19E Appalachian Trail Hike.” The hotel is located at the 19E intersection.

If you’re looking for a beautiful hike, @jessica.alimena and I declared this one of the most beautiful views we had ever seen.
Use the Appalachian Trail hostels for your weekend trips! I had no idea us “normal hikers” could do this for weekend trips. It’s genius.
Have you used this genius tip?
