Sweetwater Creek State Park: Hidden Gem Near Atlanta

I’ve figured it out! People say they aren’t hikers or “outdoorsy” - if there is such a thing - because they forget the number one hiking and backpacking rule. 👉ALWAYS HIKE NEAR WATER. Say hello to Sweetwater Creek State Park just twenty minutes west of downtown Atlanta, Georgia. 🤫Actualky. Don’t say hello. I don’t want more people to know about it! The red trail follows along the river for about two miles. Turn around and follow it back to the visitor center… or keep going on the white trail to make a full 6 mile circle. 🥾That first part is pretty technical - aka step over lots of rocks and roots - but it’s gorgeous and totally worth it. And super cool history? 👉That textile mill was burned down by Union soldiers who then took the workers prisoner and headed up north. So amazing to see the ruins still standing strong and so lovely. Dare I even say that you should skip the over hyped (and crowded Stone Mountain) to come here instead. So much more lovely. Why? Because of the water! @sweetwatercreekstatepark @friendsofgastateparks @gastateparks @friendsofsweetwater @exploredouglascountyga @discoverdouglasville
