Reclaiming Wonders
A large, vibrant red book titled 'Saxon Math 2' is held open by a hand against the backdrop of a bookshelf filled with various books. The book appears to be a comprehensive math guide for second-grade students, spanning a staggering 760 pages. The image conveys a sense of the overwhelming nature of the curriculum, contrasting with the simplicity of early childhood learning. The hand holding the book is slender, likely belonging to a parent or teacher, suggesting their initial enthusiasm for providing a thorough education but realizing the unnecessary complexity for a young child's needs.

Overly Complex Math Curriculum for Second Graders

See this? It’s ridiculous. A 760 page math guide for my second grader. . Goodbye, Saxon 2. Time to be donated. I tabbed it looking for how to best use it while I was still working. Never used it. Looked at it on my shelf for eight years. Moved it to Georgia from Texas. No more. . This was the me who started homeschooling. Who bought all the stuff everyone said she needed. Who thought she needed a curriculum to teach a little kids to add or subtract or see shapes. . If you have littles, just play. Get some cute counting bears. Find math in nature. And play games. There are plenty of years ahead for “real math”. . Quit. Stressing. Save. Money. Play. Don’t be like that version of me. 🤓
