Reclaiming Wonders

No Rush to Read

Don’t stress about your kid being “behind”. No such thing in my opinion. See here? Just my self-proclaimed nerd reading at least one Magic Tree House a day and running out before library pick up. . . I decided two kids ago that I’m done teaching 5 year olds to read.. or 6.. or 7? Memorizing readers as you flip through may make you feel like they have accomplished, but they’re just reciting. Forcing my kid to do flash cards while we both get frustrated. Worksheets. Workbooks. If they aren’t ready, they aren’t ready. . . My last two have finally “clicked” about halfway through second grade, and they’ve taken off to “catch up” at an amazing speed. So I’m taking is slow with my youngest and slowly increasing while knowing that he will take off in his own timing as well! . . Keep at it momma. And hush the critics. PS: Those glasses? That made a world of difference too 🤓 . . Thank you @mary_pope_osborne from all us moms for our kids’ favorite books. My kids had a screaming fit last week about who got to keep the collection on their shelf. 😂 Need to order more books. And figure out what to do about this when traveling... suitcase of books?! That’s a good problem to have 🤔
