Navigating Museum Visits with Kids of Mixed Ages

Best way to teach mixed ages? Family field trip to a museum. 🏛️🖼️🎨 The problem: 15 year old wants to read every word at a museum. Her siblings do not… and neither does Mom. 😉 My secret? Train the littles to occupy themselves, and start when they’re young if you can. 🔹Hand them your phone to play a quiet game. 🔹Bring a book or dot-to-dot or snack. 🔹Show them a cozy place to sit when they’re ready. 🔹Skip to a more hands-on part of the museum. 🔹Let them play quietly with sister in the corner. 🔹Move to the section that will interest them the most. 🔹Plan something they will enjoy at the next stop. 🔹Bribe them with a special treat. 😉 🔹Or even just go sit with them! 👉These tips work for fussing dads too. I usually send my biggest museum nerd with the extra cell phone and give her a deadline. Then I stroll with others, pointing out interesting facts and exhibits. 🌟But know when it’s time for the whole family to move on.🌟 ❗️Even if your little is learning nothing other than respect for others and to be patient, that’s still an important lesson. If you go to museums through your reciprocal membership, it costs nothing extra to visit - leave early without remorse. 🙌 👉Life points to you homeschool moms who have learned the sculpture in the last photo while teaching your monsters. 😊 📸National Gallery of Art in DC; Nov 2022 . . .
