Lincoln Birthplace Memorial Visit

Wanna hear a funny National Park fail? When they decided to commemorate Abe Lincoln’s birthplace, they took affidavits of people alive at the time to figure out which one was the cabin. Then they tracked it down where it was touring around the country on display. It wasn’t until tree dating years later that it was revealed that the cabin wasn’t even built until decades after his birth 😂 . . All that aside, the cabin at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site is a good memorial and commemorative of where he was born and the type of cabin his family would have built in their early years. This memorial was the first Lincoln memorial and started on the 100th anniversary of his death in 1909 - years before the Lincoln Memorial in DC. It was built by the architect of the Jefferson Memorial in DC. . . We Junior Ranger-ed, walked over to their spring where they would have gotten water, and avoided ALL the people at the visitor center. It was a quick stop off and a great addition to our Lincoln living history learning.
