Reclaiming Wonders
A young boy, likely around 13 years old, wearing a striped sweater and camouflage pants, is standing in a dimly lit backyard area, cooking hot dogs on a grill. He appears focused and engaged in the task, using tongs to handle the hot dogs. On a plate beside the grill, there are several cooked hot dogs ready to be served. The scene suggests the boy is taking responsibility and caring for himself and possibly others by preparing food independently.

Independent Kid Cooking for Himself and Family

Want independent kids? You have to allow them to learn to be independent. Practice! . . Hide and watch your kids. Take a vacation in your room. See what happens. . . Granted, I’m currently having a conversation about asking before starting the grill to cook hot dogs at 10:45 in the morning. But still... my kid fed and provided for his three siblings and me. . . Life happens when Mom doesn’t feel the best or gets busy somewhere else or zombies invade the planet. It doesn’t mean the house can’t continue to function. If your kid knows Latin at age 9 but can’t help out around the house, have you really given them the education they really need? . . Kids like doing stuff themselves. It’s a fact. What if we let them? Quit. Hovering. . . Back to hiding my congestion and praying it’s just a cold... And eating another cookie that my 13 year old made yesterday to help me get better. Yes, I know sugar is the opposite of what I need but don’t want to hurt feelings, right? ;)
