Hiking the Cherokee Trail at Stone Mountain
Step off the busy trail for this Georgia hike. 🥾⛰️🌳
When people visit Atlanta, they head to Stone Mountain. Honestly, haven’t figure out why yet when there are so many free and equally beautiful places. 🤷♀️
But anyway…
People come to Stone Mountain to hike up Stone Mountain. With everyone else.
❓Have you tried the Cherokee Trail?
🫵Hike 5 miles away from the crowd.
🌊Walk near the lake.
💦Explore the Grist Mill.
🥾Wander on the forest path.
📸Take a picture of the covered bridge.
⛰️See Stone Mountain from a distance.
🛝Rest at the playground (and potty and refill your water bottle).
👀See the carving from the base of the mountain.
👏🏻And only see a few people!
About 2/3 through the trail, you will cross the Stone Mountain main path. You can head up mountain if you want to add more work to your trek, and just catch your trail when you come back down. (Also you can use the potty at the education center if you want to hike down instead!)
‼️Take note!
The Cherokee Trail is labelled moderate. For a reason.
This trail hits Stone Mountain at a slant and sideways in places. Although you could probably conquer this without hiking poles, you’ll be glad you brought the poles and your hiking boots.
And don’t forget the water and snacks!
👉Save this for your Atlanta trip.
👉And locals, go get exploring!
