Fossil Digging Adventure
Another first to check off our list - fossil digging!
.
.
Mineral Wells, Texas has a free fossil site full of crinoids - ancient marine animals for a prehistoric sea which have been covered over the years with layers of dirt. These sea lilies left behind fossilized stalks which are all over the ground in this dig pit. We were hoping for a trilobite or giant shark tooth… but just rocks and stalks for today.

It’s so much cooler here than usual, so we thought the temp would be okay. 84 degrees up top but a gabillion in the pit. We only lasted about 20 minutes but managed to find some treasures.

The only reason we know about crinoids is from the giant crinoid fossil on the wall at our dinosaurs at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Now it’ll be even more real next time we’re there. Making museums and artifacts come to life. So cool!
