Finding Comfort in Familiar Books
The world is ugly and stressful right now… It’s okay to retreat and hide in something comforting and familiar. Don’t surround yourself with news all day. It’s not going to help you feel better.
.
For me, I have put aside some harder books for the familiar. A love story. Or familiar characters. Or happy historical fiction.
.
I don’t talk about this “dirty habit” very often. Some people don’t like to reread, call it waste of time. Then, Sarah Mackenzie’s Read Aloud Revival (Ep.141) brought a lightbulb to me - it’s not something that makes you a worse reader or something you shouldn’t do. It’s good and should be done!
.
Just as our kids like the comfort of the same story and adults like rewatching favorite movies… it’s okay to dive back into the same book. Permission granted.
.
I don’t know how many times I found magic with Harry Potter in college. Or time travelled with Discovery of Witches as an adult. And went inspecting with Gamache in Quebec.
.
Do it. Show your kids it’s okay. Seek comfort. Know when to turn off the ugly of the world or your current stressors or sadness…
.

.
What’s your comfort book? I need some new favorites. And if you don’t own these beautifully illustrated Harry books, put them on your wish list.
.
Take care of yourself out there ❤️
