Family Vacation Lessons: Walking Washington, D.C.
Don’t make the same mistakes I did! Your family vacation to Washington, D.C. will thank you.
I started my list of DC mistakes while still in the capital. I’d be so wise if I could just road trip everywhere twice. 🤣
❓Yes, the hotel was free with points and “only” a mile from the Capitol. (‼️Win‼️) But why didn’t I book the same hotel located on the National Mall and save miles of walking?
❓$300… just to park the car at the hotel for a week. Yes, we saved time not riding the subway into DC every day but $300?!
❗️Definitely would stay downtown if we had flown in… But still not decided on “next time”…
❓DC is the city of walking. We’re tough; we’ll just walk. Even my super-trooper kids were complaining of their feet hurting. We averaged >15,000 steps a day. And we took the subway more than I expected.
❗️Invest in good shoes and rest. It’s okay!
❓You don’t need to fill your schedule. Yes, places close at 5:30. You don’t need to find evening activities.
❗️Go to supper and veg at the hotel. It’s “allowed”.
I’ll keep working on enjoying the family trip during the moment. I’ve had 41 years to master my pessimism. 😉I’m thankful for the husband who gets to be the fun one. 🎉🥳
👉Save this for your DC trip with your kids to remind you to be reasonable.
