Exploring Monticello and Thomas Jefferson's Legacy
It’s road trip planning time! Here’s an idea.💡🚙🏛️
👉Consider making a family road trip around Virginia. The beauty surprised me, and we ran out of time to see all the sites as we headed toward Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown.
We knew about Thomas Jefferson from books, but seeing his favorite place truly let us meet him. Don’t overlook Monticello.❤️
10 Things to Do at Monticello:
🔹Learn and tour the house he designed
🔹Read about TJ’s role in American history and the Declaration of Independence
🔹Wander about his vegetable garden terrace
🔹Inspect the plant specimens from around the world
🔹Stroll around the grass lawn and tree orchard
🔹Search for his inventions he installed in his home
🔹Admire the artifacts brought back by Lewis and Clark
🔹Learn about the enslaved people, their lives, and their homes
🔹Hike down to the family burial plot
🔹And spend an hour in the museum.
Take a couple of hours to wander the beautiful grounds of the University of Virginia only 5 minutes away in Charlottesville. Jefferson even had “Father of the University of Virginia” listed as one of his proudest accomplishments on his tombstone. He didn’t even mention his presidency.
