Birds of Prey Encounter
Long drive today to see some tree colors and waterfall adventuring and randomly stumbling upon a lovely surprise! Birds of prey talk #amicalolafallslodge and a note made that they do one every Saturday. (Snakes on Sunday!) We met great horned owl, screech owl, barred owl, red tailed hawk, and a vulture and learned all kinds of facts about them. Did you know a great horned owl is eight times stronger than human grip and could crush your arm bones if he grabbed on your bare arm? We were all fascinated. And it was very obvious that the ranger loves these animals and what she does... and I love that the kids get to see someone living out their passion.
We just finished listening to the sequel of My Side of the Mountain yesterday and have been talking about the perifrine falcon in the book a lot and the laws protecting them... and then only the next day we see some in person. And are dissecting owl pellets on Monday in #classicalconversations Did you know all birds of prey make pellets?! Facts everywhere.
