Reclaiming Wonders
The image depicts a page from a children's book, 'Alexander, Who's Trying His Best to Be the Best Boy Ever,' featuring a vibrant illustration of a red-haired boy with a mischievous expression. The boy, presumably Alexander, wears a green sweater and appears to be sneaking away from a situation, as suggested by the accompanying text. Adjacent to the illustration is a handwritten list on graph paper, possibly a class schedule or a list of subjects. A wooden surface serves as the backdrop, hinting at a scholastic or educational setting.

Benefits of Reading Picture Books

There have been quite a few mom friends who have expressed to me their frustration in their kids’ reading... and when I tell them harder picture books exist, they act like they didn’t know such things exist. Or that their kids are too old. . Case in point today. Alexander, Who’s Trying his Best to be the Best Boy Ever was on our reading list today. A sequel to his terrible, no good, very bad day, of course! . We read lots of picture books. Nonfiction. Biographies. Fiction. Easy writing. Harder writing. Living books that tell stories instead of just facts... and even the “big kids” love them and pay attention. . Don’t give up on picture books. I’ve heard it said that picture books have bigger vocabularies because the authors have to select words carefully. Today he talked about his consequences. And later today my kids used the word. Bam! . Pick up a good book of books for a list. Check out some #patriciapolacco at least. And enjoy some beautiful pictures. . .
