Ancient Standing Stones in Scotland
#clavacairns close to #inverness was a quick stop on the way to #cullodenbattlefield . It was bigger than the one yesterday with three cairns and taller standing stones. Still no magical transport!
The kids wanted to go to Stonehenge which would be a whole day’s trip away from London. I’m trying to show them that there are lots of standing stone circles... but this is the last for us I think. Amazing to think that there are 4,000 year old places just down the road here while in America, we don’t even have things this ancient anywhere.
It seems a Victorian picnic party 150 years ago decided to dismantle a cairn for entertainment one afternoon. Another group used the stones to build some of the rock wall... Hopefully, I’m instilling in my kid a respect for all things... even if that means I have to kept yelling at them to get away from the walls... and all their attempted craziness ;)
