Mastering Natural Light Photography
Photograph facing the sun, or don’t 🤷🏼♀️
Wait for a good cloud to soften the light, or don’t.
Photograph with artificial light, or don’t.
Understanding how light works IS photography and picking the conditions you like to photograph in can be a daunting and tedious task. I fought for a long time thinking I needed artificial light in every shoot and that a good shot couldn’t be one without it. Turns out I was feeding myself with that “truth” because I hadn’t found what I liked most, which is direct sunlight.
I’ve done the work to be able to photograph in a majority of lighting situations and can honestly say it’s helped me endlessly with what I know I like for my work now. I know it’s silly to think that we all can go rent a studio and play with flash but what we can do is study those techniques to make photographing light we can’t control (the sun) easier!
Do you the difference between bad shade and good shade? Do you know how to adjust your white balance to the light?
