Gear Doesn't Matter - Get Outside
Let’s talk outdoor gear!
Are you someone who wishes they spent more time outdoors but you think “oh I don’t have new or the best snow gear so I can’t go” OR are you someone who is already pretty outdoorsy but is scared to try a new activity because you would have to rent gear and everyone would know you’re new to the activity and it would be embarrassing to have someone notice?
Let’s squash the gear stigma yall! In this photo I’m wearing @cuyler_thecreator first ever ski set which has a waistline meant for men, so I can’t button them which means I drag them while snowshoeing and the jacket is so big all I hear when I walk is swishing and nothing else. Under that set I’m wearing off brand yoga pants, generic pink sweatpants, a lion king sweater, and a Harry Potter sweater. My water bottle lid is so on it last leg I don’t even know how it’s made it this long, my hat is my sisters from high school, the sunglasses I bought secondhand and pretty scratched, and my snowshoes are ones I borrowed from a friend.
The point of all of this is, I’ve talked to quite a few people who tell me they can’t or think they can’t try something outdoorsy because they don’t have the “correct gear” or think the correct gear is what’s the trendiest because that’s what society had lead them to believe. Being outside isn’t about being on top of the trends or spending your entire paycheck for a passing “nice sunglasses” comment. Its about what you need it to be for you! Fresh air, meditation, a workout, an escape, a desire to see the world, pushing your comfort zone, anything but the gear!
Prioritize your safety with first aid kits, bear spray, sunscreen, food and water, and whatever else you need to stay safe with a specific activity in a specific area and then go for it! There are so many places to buy secondhand and you can work your way up to more specific things as you figure out what activities you like most.
The outdoors is meant for EVERYONE!
Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt like you couldn’t do something outdoorsy because of the gear. 🙋🏼♀️ Raise your hand again if most of your outdoor gear is secondhand.🙋🏼♀️
