The Importance of Learning How to Sell as a Creative

The SKILL šŸ‘‡ šŸ“øBut first be sure to follow @nashhagen for more creative business tips. As a creative, I always viewed the business side of freelancing as a scary topic. I didnā€™t want to be sleazy and come off pushy. I didnā€™t want to learn how to sell and Iā€™d rather just stay in my lane. But staying in my lane almost bankrupted me šŸ˜‘ It got to a point where I had to make a decision. Learn how to sell myself OR Get a job I didnā€™t want so I could pay my bills. I reluctantly chose the former and promptly went 0-27 on my first 27 sales calls šŸ˜ But I learned a few valuable lessons šŸ™Œ 1. You canā€™t fail if you donā€™t quit. Most people would be given up after call 2 let alone 27. 2. If you canā€™t sell, youā€™ll be price shopped to 0 cause someone else is always willing to do it cheaper. 3. If you donā€™t know your value how could you expect to charge it. 4. Trying to sell with no plan is like going to a shoot with no shot list. Yeah you might get lucky but youre shooting blind. 5. You arent just competing against other creators, but also marketing agencies, production companies and more that have been in the game for years. If you donā€™t think they have a dialed sales process then youā€™re in for a rude awakening. Not knowing how to sell is like never training and showing up to a heavy weight championship fight against Mike Tyson in his prime and expecting to win. It doesnā€™t work. I took a bunch of initial punches and almost got knocked out, but I learned the game in the process and have broken it down into a simple framework I call T.A.R.G.E.T šŸ“Œ If you want me to send it to you comment ā€œSCRIPTā€ Be blessed and stay stoked šŸ˜ŽšŸ¤™
