A lone figure stands on a sandy beach, silhouetted against the vivid colors of a stunning sunset sky. Towering palm trees frame the scene, their fronds swaying gently in the evening breeze. The sky is a breathtaking gradient of warm oranges and pinks, with streaks of fiery red and deep blues adding depth and drama. Fluffy clouds catch the golden rays of the setting sun, lending a dreamlike quality to the image. The calm waters of the ocean stretch out before the silhouetted figure, reflecting the vibrant hues of the sky. This serene and picturesque moment captures the beauty and tranquility of a tropical paradise at dusk.

The Dangers of Extreme Self-Reliance

Self affirmation is a lie. - There’s a cult, especially prevalent among social media motivational people that spew the narrative that you are enough, you are all you need, live your own truth, do you, etc. and while some of those may have a hint of truth, for the most part they are not only false but actually dangerous. - The moment you start believing this narrative, you become your own god. You become the highest authority and no matter what anyone says, you will do what you want because you are the highest authority on your life and decisions. In fact the highest form of righteousness in this belief system is doing your own thing.- So if you are the god, and the highest form of righteousness is doing you, the two highest moral values I could argue are authenticity and autonomy. Now these aren’t necessary bad things. Everyone wants to be unique and have the government off their back, but they become dangerous when they’re your #1 goal. - When they’re your #1 goal, you can justify virtually anything in the name of “being yourself.” We see it today running rampant. People do extremely questionable things, but because we label it as them being authentic to themselves, it’s justifiable. - It’s a lie. You cannot live your own truth because if this were the case, everyone would have different standards. There’s no ultimate standard to live by so everything is permissible as long as it’s true to the specific person. As much as we like to think, ultimately we are not in control of our life. We can make decisions to help it, but we have no control over diseases, random accidents, weather etc. and to think otherwise is extremely arrogant. - Authenticity and autonomy are not bad when subjected to the standards of the Word of God, but when left up to us they lead to ultimate downfall. - Be blessed and stay stoked 😎🤙 - • • • • • •
