A breathtaking and otherworldly scene from a desert landscape, featuring towering sandstone formations of deep red and orange hues, arched overhangs, and a vast expanse of smooth, rippled sand dunes. The vivid colors and intricate striations in the eroded rock formations create a striking contrast against the brilliant blue sky. In the foreground, a solitary figure sits peacefully on a rock ledge, gazing out over the surreal and serene vista, dwarfed by the immense and majestic geological formations surrounding them.

Surreal Desert Landscapes of the American West

While this looks otherworldly, let it deepen the understanding for you just how beautiful THIS world is. I’ve spent the last 4 years more deeply exploring the places I once resided throughout the west, and the funny thing is I’ve only just scratched the surface. It would take several lifetimes and all the intention we possess to not just visit every place, but truly bare witness and be present enough with them that you can marvel at the nuances and intricate beauty. Go slowly. Be intentional. Go back for more. And accept, while we can’t do it all in this lifetime, we can focus on what’s important to us and really send it on that. I’ve been to dozens of countries around the world, and for me the western US (including alaska) is where the wild things are and where my heart belongs
