Life Lessons from Canyoneering
On this route, I learned to let go of the extra tension I thought was “keeping me safe and in control.”
Turned out to be a life metaphor, that sometimes the things we hang onto to stay comfortable or safe are actually hurting us in the short and long term. The extra arm of tension I was using on my CRITR on this 240ft rapp was causing the rope to cut into the rock from jerking due to the heavy weight from the length of the rapp. Eventually, if this went on long enough to the rope, it could sever and break.
I let the tension off the arm, and went down, single rope. Tension off. Fear of the unknown faced… Smooth rapp thereafter.
Canyoneering teaches life lessons almost every time. If you want answers to the troubles plaguing your life and are crippled with indecision, get outside and take notice of what nature is teaching you. There are always lessons for those willing to notice. This one was “let go and life will be smoother”
