Floating the Lanquin River in Guatemala
Floated the shimmery aqua blue warm waters of the Lanquin River in Guatemala after caving by candlelight. Entrepreneurial niños floated over offering coolers filled with Coronas and Gallos for 20 quetzales a bottle. Hundreds of butterflies of blue, orange, and yellow danced in the space above the water, sometimes visiting each of us as we pretended to float through life as they do. For some reason I floated slower than everyone else and got to extend my time, mostly solo for having fallen behind. water eddies formed by every boulder and provided fun obstacles. You need shoes so you can climb, cave, and safely navigate and it didn’t bother me one bit to wear tennis shoes with a swim suit. In fact, one of the best parts of this trip was that I hardly even saw mirrors, and it simply didn’t matter because every day was so filled with life and the least important thing was how anyone looked. When you’re really living, it’s not about what you look like, own, or wear, it’s about what makes your heart burst with joy or brings tears to your eyes from natural beauty or the extreme challenge it took to get somewhere.
