Finding Your Path Through Outdoor Adventure

Proof whatever it is you want to get into, you can do it and one day It’ll seem trivial to you: Backpacking used to be a BIG deal to me. I’d prepare so far in advance. I’d shop for gear. I’d think about it A LOT. And my nerves would be worked up in anticipation because it felt like something “I wasn’t sure I was capable of”. Nowadays, after having done it so often and for so many years, collected and tried my arsenal of gear that feels perfect, and having gotten into mountaineering, canyoneering and climbing where the gear, pursuits, weight, and skills are much more technical and high consequence than just walking with a pack on and following a map, backpacking feels like a literal stroll in a park (with the added bonus of camping). It took me all of 3 minutes to think about and pack for this journey. It’s truly second nature and part of my skill set. Had this trip so down I was even able to provide 2 liters of water (I carried 5) and energy gels to the other group that was out there so they could safely make it out. You can become anyone and any thing you want in today’s day and age. Don’t take the opportunities in front of you for granted. If something looks cool to you, try it. That’s a little nod from your soul about who you’re really meant to be. Bonus you can do it motivation and support: I’m 36, 4 ft 11, weigh about 113, did not grow up with ANY of this (my entire family has health issues and does not venture out of their CA homes), i used to lead a completely different lifestyle, I do not have supportive family at all (but have the best and raddest friendships), and started all this because I ached for it in my soul. If I can do this, know it in your bones that you can too, and I’m rooting for you. You’re why I share on here. you, sitting there inspired, wondering “can I?”. You can, and you will. And I can’t wait to see you start where you are.
