A young woman with long blonde hair is joyfully posing on the bow of a sailboat, raising her arms up in a celebratory gesture. She is wearing a black top and denim shorts, with ankle boots on her feet. The image captures her in mid-motion, with her hair flowing and a radiant smile on her face. The scene behind her shows a calm body of water with other sailboats and a shoreline in the distance, suggesting a scenic harbor or marina setting. The vivid blue sky and the sun's rays reflecting off the water create a vibrant and cheerful ambiance.

Embracing the Live-Aboard Lifestyle

Hi šŸ‘‹, Iā€™m Kym In Oct 2019, I quit my corporate job to take off on a solo backpacking trip ā€œaround the worldā€ that abruptly ended due to šŸ¦  the pandemic. When I returned on the last āœˆļø back from Nicaragua after experiencing global border shut downs & hitching a 575 mile ride on the back of a motorcycle from El Salvador to Nicaragua, thatā€™s when ā€œlive aboard lifeā€ began for me. I returned to Seattle post-trip after having sold, donated & gifted most of my belongings (kept my Jeep Wrangler- Joy), and letting go of my downtown apartment, to ā€œtemporarilyā€ live with my boyfriend on a 2 BR, 2 bath yacht šŸ›„ because he ā€œhad lots of toilet paper, ramen, & long term provisionsā€ to help us get through a time when Seattle was the US ground zero for the pandemic & people were fighting over šŸ§». So nuts. What we thought would be a multi-week ordeal is ongoing. Weā€™ve since lived aboard with our 27 toed šŸˆā€ā¬›, enjoying the freedom of minimalism, & just recently got a new ā›µļø to start learning to sail so we can take our travels together to the seas in addition to overland. #dreamcometrue Instead of giving up on my dreams, I pivoted. After living & working in CA, UT, AZ, AK, & WA (worked OR too) in tourism over the years, I returned to ā€œmy home statesā€ to go deeper on exploration, adventure, & travels. I took up through-hiking, climbing, canyoneering, mountaineering, rafted & camped 21 days down the colorado river, spent months overlanding visiting western; National, state, and BLM parks. I read voraciously and spent all my days outside, growing, learning, and becoming the woman a younger me probably needed all along. @sea2summitexplorer is retiring after 20 yrs in the coast guard this AUG & we can FINALLY travel together full time thereafter, overland in our Cabover Camper & by sailboat, internationally & nationally. I turned my gap year into a lifestyle I donā€™t need a vacation from because its designed with learning, outdoors, rest, play, love, & adventure at the core. A Joie de vivirĆ© that has proven to be ā€œend of the world proof.ā€ Currently training for MT RAINIER: 7/1-4 I genuinely cant wait to see whatā€™s next and I hope youā€™ll join us along for the adventure.
