Paper Plate Fishbowl Craft
Invite the kids to have fun bowling for fish...wait a minute, we mean making a Fish Bowl, lol. When kids paint with blue watercolor paint to make the water in their fish bowl, it looks magical the way the paint moves off of the drawings, and makes them really stand out. This painting technique is called “color resist art” and can be a great way to start a conversation with your kids about absorption. Hey, did we just turn craft time into a STEAM activity!?! How cool is that!
Supplies:
white paper plates
watercolor paints and brush
crayons
scissors
tape
Directions:
Invite your child to draw an underwater fishbowl scene on the paper plate with crayon.
Invite your child to cut a small curve from their paper plate to give it the look of a fishbowl. Tape it to the bottom of the fishbowl.
Next, invite your child to cover their plate with blue watercolor paint. The watercolor paint will absorb into the paper plate, but bead off the crayon because the wax protects the paper.
