Printable Summer Sewing Craft for Kids
Today has been “sew” good “sew” far, haha! We have been learning to sew with this printable summer craft. By the end your kids could know how to do hatching (no egg required, lol), a running stitch, and edging. There are 3 styles to choose from; whale, popsicle, watermelon.
Note: This activity teaches hand eye coordination and fine motor skills.
SUPPLIES:
Printable lacing cards available to download on our blog (or make your own drawings to lace through)
Hole punch (or just push an empty pen or sharp object through the holes if you don’t have a punch)
Yarn
Blunt needle
Clear tape
DIRECTIONS:
Wrap the threading end of the yarn with a little clear adhesive tape) and tie a big knot at one end of the yarn or use a button as a stopper so the thread doesn’t pull through the lacing card.
Watch kids carefully and teach them how to move their hands out of the way of the needle.
Let them stitch along the lacing card. They can try different sewing methods like hatching, running stitch and edging, or just make their own pattern.
