Well, life doesn’t go according to plan so my vacation turned into a quarantine. I spoke about sorely needing rest as I felt overworked and drained, not knowing it was already too late to take care of my health as I had a COVID infection brewing. Thankfully I got a mild case, but damn the timing sucked. Photo @villaselenasyros

Especially because I so look forward to vacation here. Being in Greece in the summer feels so….free. In every sense. My hair goes wild, my make up disappears, I’m always in flip flops or no shoes at all. Going out with undereye circles showing and saltwater-streaked hair feels natural, and my appearance takes a distant back seat to my enjoyment, something I don’t always feel making my way around LA - especially working in entertainment.

When I was younger I’d compare photos from the beginning of the summer to the end and always laugh at how much I had “let myself go”, in the good sense. I’d arrive from the US all well-coiffed and polished and end up salty, tan lined, in shorts all day, with grey hairs showing (yes even younger, had them since my mid-20s), and happy and comfortable as hell in my skin.

Here’s to keeping a little of that feeling all year long. When we let go of our appearance hang-ups, daily life becomes so much more enjoyable, don’t you think?
