A couple enjoying the day in La Boca, Buenos Aires.
••
Founded by mostly working class Genoese immigrants from Italy in the 1800s (they even tried to secede from the city of Buenos Aires in 1882), La Boca is a major tourist attraction thanks to its colorful houses and scenic streets.
••
Football/soccer fans around the world also know it as the home of fan-favorite team Boca Juniors. There’s a funny story about Boca’s use of blue and yellow team colors. In 1906, Boca played a team with such similar colors that they bet the loser would have to change colors. Boca lost, and since the neighborhood was near the sea, they said they’d wear the colors of the flag of the first ship to sail into port. The first ship was Swedish and so....the blue and yellow Boca Juniors uniforms were born.
