I wrote a while back about my experiences in a refugee camp for Syrians in Greece, and the hurdles they have to go through just to find a safe new place to call home, where they can raise a family, find a job, and simply live their lives.

None of us know when we might find ourselves in a situation where we need a new home, need someone to welcome us and give us a hand. We support fellow people not only because its the right and humane thing to do, but also because we recognize that all of us in this world can be vulnerable, and we're stronger when we have each other's backs and are in this together.

Instead of punishing those who are inflicting the suffering in Syria, we have decided to punish the victims. When you ban Muslims from these countries, Drumpf, this is who you ban. People who are coming here from destroyed homes for a chance at a better life, and a chance to contribute to this society. Like many immigrants to the US have done since its inception.
