Hey there! I have encountered a lot of folks who are feeling guilty or kicking themselves for not being able to be at the protests, due to COVID risk or other reasons. Don’t. We’re still in a pandemic, your fear is fine. (Link in stories - how to stay safe at protests). I have a COVID test scheduled tomorrow, and will be staying home for a while from the protests. However, there are so many ways you can do the work from home. •• Call, petition, donate, volunteer. I have signed up with @grassrootslaw , and look forward to starting to help out. If you want, please volunteer with me! •• However, for white friends, there is more we can do. Take a look at this list. If there is anything you don’t understand, or stop and think “well wait, how is that white supremacy?”...we must start by educating ourselves. I didn’t know a lot but have been following educators like @rachel.cargle and @ihartericka and reading up on the subject. •• DON’T ask your black friends to explain. They are exhausted and you need to do your own work. DON’T feel the need to go into the comment section and explain why you think this is wrong. Defensiveness is unfortunately our (because I include myself) first impulse. Please just take a moment to be open minded and research. •• A funny creator I follow (@thenoelmiller ) said the following: “People this weekend will spend four hours binge watching how Jeffrey Epstein trafficked and raped young girls, but taking a moment to research the real history of race in this country makes them uncomfortable. Why?” •• We can all take time to do this. . . . . .
