This is your sign to add a drone to your camera bag this year—or use your drone more if you already have one!
Here are 5 reasons why you should ⤵
1. They add a completely unique perspective to the work you can create and can challenge you to be creative in new ways. You can easily capture a whole scene from above, but creating really eye-catching images will challenge you to think differently about how you use composition, lighting, and much more!
2. They’re easy to use, especially the newer drones. I would recommend the DJI Mini 3 Pro if you’re picking up your first drone. It produces high-quality photo + video, including vertical format photo and video, and has many capture-assist features built in.
3. They’re very portable. It easily fits into your camera bag, and you can take it with you practically anywhere. Just make sure to do your due diligence and research if you can fly wherever you’re going! Common no-fly zones are National Parks, Wilderness Areas, Wildlife Refuges, and commercial airspace. If you’re gonna use a drone, be smart about it!
4. Once you get the hang of creating with a drone, and get your FAA Part 107 License you can use your drone for commercial work. This can be a fantastic selling point for some of the potential brands you might want to work with, and overall it’s just another offer you can have as a creative—if you want to be a creative full/part-time of course!
5. Lastly, it’s honestly just a ton of fun! Yes, it can be a little nerve-wracking at first but it’s pretty low-risk to fly them with all the safety features they have now. That said, it’s not a bad idea to get it insured, just in case! Once you’ve got the hang of flying it though, it’s addicting. Seeing some of the places you love to shoot from above is absolutely wild!
