Jessie on a Journey
The image depicts a picturesque scene in the old town of Zadar, a historic city located on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. At the center of the frame stands the imposing Saint Anastasia's Cathedral, a magnificent Romanesque-style church dating back to the 12th century. Its tall, slender bell tower rises majestically against the azure sky, offering a beautiful vantage point for admiring the surrounding architecture and landscape. Adjacent to the cathedral is the circular Church of St. Donatus, another iconic landmark of Zadar, built in the 9th century in the Byzantine style atop the ruins of a Roman forum. The warm, golden hues of the church buildings contrast harmoniously with the vibrant red-tiled roofs of the surrounding structures, creating a visually striking composition. In the foreground, a grassy area dotted with ancient stone ruins serves as an impromptu seating area for locals and visitors alike, who can be seen leisurely lounging or strolling amid the historic surroundings. The scene exudes a sense of timeless charm, blending the city's rich cultural heritage with contemporary urban life.

Historic Old Town of Zadar, Croatia

#Zadar’s old town has about seven churches, heritage museums and so many #ruins they actually serve as park seating (which, side note, I find a bit weird). Each #holy institution has its own unique character, from Zadar’s oldest 9th century St. Donatus done in a circular Byzantine design and built on top of the old Roman Forum, which you can beside on an outdoor terrace and sip #coffee and #wine, or the next door 12th century Romanesque Saint Anastasia’s Cathedral with its bell tower offering #beautiful #views. The Church of Saint Simeon, St. Mary’s Church, the #Church of Saint Chrysogonus and the Saint Francis Church and Franciscan Monastery are just a few other places of worship worth visiting. As is Zadar's Archeological Museum, where you can start to wrap your head around the meaning of all you're taking in. Read more: http://jessieonajourney.com/zadar-off-season-travel-guide/
