Handicrafts at Spitzkoppe: Desert Shopping Experience

When traveling through Namibia, I did a scenic drive from Windhoek to Swakopmund, stopping at Spitzkoppe along the way. Along with otherworldly rock formations in the desert and camping opportunities, Spitzkoppe is home to some beautiful handicrafts. The local Damara women and their children set up tables filled with "Big 5" safari dioramas, jewelry and gemstones — Namibia is known for its mining -- that glisten under the strong sunlight. It's a great spot to shop and hike before savoring an al fresco picnic in a beautiful place.
