Jessie on a Journey
The image captures a gritty urban scene in Bushwick, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York City. In the foreground, a large pile of discarded tires is strewn across the ground, their black rubber surfaces contrasting with the earthy tones of the bare ground beneath. Behind the tires, the walls of adjacent buildings are adorned with vibrant graffiti, a colorful tapestry of various styles and motifs. One prominent mural depicts a striking portrait of a woman's face, her features rendered in bold strokes and vivid hues. The graffiti covers the walls in layers, creating a visually rich and chaotic composition. The surrounding buildings appear weathered and industrial, with bare brick walls and utilitarian architecture. In the background, a clear blue sky with wispy clouds provides a contrasting backdrop to the gritty urban elements. The scene presents a juxtaposition of decay and artistic expression, capturing the raw and authentic character of the Bushwick neighborhood.

Gritty Urban Scene in Bushwick

I was drawn to this #Bushwick scene while leading a @nycphotosafaris #InstaWalk due to the layering of the buildings, and the contrast of the elements. Across the street from the luxury Castlebraid apartment building you'll find a pile of tires and graffitied walls. The scene before me probably should be ugly -- and I'll admit I'm against littering -- but the mix of colors and textures come together to be aesthetically pleasing, at least in my eyes. Where do you go to find unusual scenes to shoot?
