Jessie on a Journey
A vibrant and mouthwatering bowl of ramen sits in the foreground, showcasing a rich and flavorful broth infused with a blend of savory pork bone and miso. The broth is adorned with an array of enticing toppings, including tender slices of goma pork (sesame-flavored pork), scallions for a fresh herbaceous note, a delicately cooked ajitama (soft-boiled egg), crisp Napa cabbage, bean sprouts adding a crunchy texture, and sweet kernels of corn. Delicate wisps of steam rise from the piping hot bowl, hinting at the comforting warmth and aroma of the dish. The ramen is presented in a rustic ceramic bowl with a deep blue glaze, providing a striking contrast to the warm hues of the broth and toppings. Scattered around the bowl are specks of colorful spices, adding a touch of visual interest and suggesting the potential for added heat or complexity of flavors.

Flavorful Ramen Tatsu-Ya Elevates Instant Noodle Comfort

I walked all the way from downtown to Zilker to savor this ramen, highly recommended by my local friends. Growing up instant ramen was a daily staple, and when I became an adult and realized the oh so many possibilities one could do with this instant noodle comfort dish it truly became a beloved meal (bonus that it’s usually uber filling and cheap). Ramen Tatsu-Ya puts a funky spin on traditional Japanese — not surprisingly, as the venue was opened by two former DJs — with urban decor and seven base ramens which you can add toppings and “bombs” (unique sauce and spice combos) to. As a hot head I loved the “Mi-So-Hot” with a pork bone and miso broth blend, goma pork, scallion, ajitama, Napa cabbage, bean sprout and corn. I paired this with a refreshing “Bae-Zilla” blending sparkling Thai basil lemonade and lemon seed, made boozy with sake.
