Jessie on a Journey
A pair of Nazca boobies, a unique species of seabird native to the Galapagos Islands, stand perched on a weathered branch amidst a backdrop of barren trees and a vibrant blue sky. The boobies, with their striking white plumage and distinctive orange beaks, are engaged in an intimate courtship display. One booby has its wings outstretched, revealing the striking black and white patterning on its wingtips, while the other leans in closely, their beaks almost touching in a tender gesture. The image captures the natural beauty and fascinating behavior of these fascinating avian residents of the Galapagos archipelago.

Fascinating Nazca Boobies on the Galapagos Islands

Nazca boobies have the funniest facial expressions, don’t you think? (#ad) 🤡 During my trip to the Galápagos Islands aboard @WildAid's Passion yacht, wildlife spotting was a huge focus. Each island in the Galapagos has its own wildlife highlights. 🦜 For instance, on Genovesa — one of the more remote, uninhabited islands, only accessible by cruise — my small group hiked through a Nazca booby colony. Nazca boobies are FASCINATING. ✨ One of the most interesting (and morbid) things I learned about them is that they commit "obligate siblicide" -- as in, when a female booby lays her two eggs only one of them will live because one sibling, usually the older one, will kill the other. 🤭 And it's not just when there is a shortage of food. It's always. Nature is wild! 🌿 A big thanks to @Andando_Tours for sponsoring my trip to the Galapagos! ___ * * * #VisitGalapagos #responsibletravel #Galapagoswildlife #galapagosluxury #galapagoscruise #galapagos #galapagosislands #galapagos_islands #galapagosisland #galapagos🐢
