Jessie on a Journey
A tall, ancient Egyptian obelisk stands in a scenic park setting. The obelisk, known as Cleopatra's Needle, is a monolithic granite column covered in hieroglyphic inscriptions. It rises to a pointed peak against a backdrop of blue sky with wispy white clouds. The obelisk is surrounded by lush greenery, trees, and shrubs, creating a tranquil and picturesque scene. This historic artifact, which dates back to around 1450 BC, has been relocated from its original site in Heliopolis, Egypt, and now resides in Central Park, New York City, serving as a testament to the enduring cultural heritage of ancient Egypt.

Exploring Global Culture in NYC

You don't even need to leave NYC to travel the world. From Russian bathhouses to Swedish FIKA cafes to Japanese sushi-making classes, there's much global culture to explore. ___ You can even visit Egypt! Check out Cleopatra's Needle (above), a 69-foot red granite Egyptian obelisk in @centralparknyc. Recently one of my @nycphototour guests asked if the obelisk was an artistic reproduction. I explained that it's actually authentic, originally constructued in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis around 1450 BC. Later on it was knocked down by Persian invaders, and lay buried for 500 years until the Romans took it to be placed in front of the Caesarium Temple, dedicated to Julius Caesar. In the 1881 it was sent to New York, in return for aid to help modernize Egypt. ___ The obelisk is located just west of the @metmuseum, and is definitely worth a stop, either on your own or on a photo tour with moi 😎📸 ___ Email jessie@jessieonajourney.com for more information!
