Disconnecting at a Jungle Lodge in Panama
One thing I'm incredibly thankful for: Having gotten to experience travel without the tech obsession.
✨
In fact, my first few backpacking trips I didn't bring a phone. Instead, every few days I would find a local internet cafe in my destination and send out a lengthy email or Facebook post about my trip to update family and friends (the earliest iterations of Jessie on a Journey 😉).
✨
Because it's highly unlikely we'll see a day where hotel/hostel common areas aren't filled with travelers entranced by their phones and laptops, I find it therapeutic to seek out these opportunities to disconnect.
✨
One heavenly place to do this is the luxurious @thejunglelodge in Bocas del Toro, Panama. There's no WiFi or cell service. Instead of typing and swiping, you spend days playing with the lodge pets (swipe right to one of these cuties!), exploring bat caves, searching for sloths, hiking through jungle, kayaking through mangroves, cleaning off in an outdoor shower (heavenly!), and falling asleep to the sound of rain pattering against the roof. Actually, our room had no 4th wall, so we could literally sit in bed and lounge in our in-room hammocks and watch monkeys swinging from trees.
✨
Stays like these remind me of why I love traveling so much, and how healing getting out of our routines and experiencing a new place can be.
