Family Hiking Lessons at College M Trail
"Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing." ~ Dr. Seuss
We were in Bozeman this week and while researching what to do in the area I kept coming across College M hike. The "M" stands for Montana State University and was placed on the hill originally back in 1915. We are trying to add in more hiking this summers so we set off on our adventure.
This is a very busy hiking spot, kid and dog friendly, and easy to moderate depending on what trail used. We let Addy decide which route to take about half way up and we greatly regretted it. We ended up scaling the mountain side on our hands and feet. Turns out we went on the "Strenuous" path. 🤦♀️
After regrouping, we did make it to the top after a few more steep switch backs and the views were incredible. We came down a different way and it was definitely more our type of trail (less incline, very clear path, and easy to navigate).
Hiking lesson learned:
▪️Load hiking map to phone prior to starting
▪️Do not let young child pick route
▪️Bring more water (2 water bottles for 4 people was not enough)
❓ What hiking advice to you have for us for future hikes and where is your favorite place to hike❓
